SGA JOINS RUNNERS TO CONSERVE THE WILD AT LEWA MARATHON

There is always something spectacular about the Lewa Marathon and the 2018 edition held on Saturday, June 30th was no exception. The runners, who braved the chilly morning at the Lewa Conservancy for this annual ritual, had to wait for up to 10 minutes for the start of the marathon to allow the organisers clear a handful of rhinos and elephants from the course - a spectacle that you can only experience at Lewa.

That is the magnet that attracts running enthusiasts in their hundreds from across the globe to the Lewa Marathon where, as the motto aptly states, they 'run wild for the wild'.

Running for a worthy cause is the one thing that unifies all the runners with the desire to raise funds for wildlife conservation. It is this motivation that also saw SGA Kenya sponsor the 2018 edition of the Lewa Marathon. The bright orange brand colour of SGA - the leading security company in the East African region, stood out all over Lewa Conservancy for three days with more than 150 events-trained security personnel on hand to ensure smooth running of the event. They oversaw crowd security control at the camps, during the race all through to the prize giving ceremony that saw hundreds of people in attendance. The event was graced by the First Lady H.E Margaret Kenyatta as the Chief Guest.

"We are very proud to be part of this worthy cause as wildlife conservation is not only close to our hearts as an organisation but also one of the key pillars of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives," said SGA Kenya Country Director Martin Ochieng.

Since inception, 19 years ago, up to 13,000 runners have graced the Lewa Marathon and helped raise in excess of 700M towards wildlife conservation and community development.
